Tomato Paste Prices, April 2024

11/04/2024 - François-Xavier Branthôme
Tomato Paste Prices, Last update April 11, 2024
(Spain, Portugal, Italy, China, Chile and USA)

Since May 1986, information concerning the prices of pastes on the export market has been made available every month. Since July 2017, a section dedicated to these prices has been featured on our website www.tomatonews.com.

For each of the six countries that play a significant role in international trade (USA, Spain, Portugal, Italy, China and Chile), Tomato News presents the average monthly unit values of exports (in USD/metric tonne (t)) that are available for the past thirteen complete month for each category segment (customs codes of 8 digits or more), representative of the foreign trade operations of these countries. For a better understanding of the monthly exports price values, Tomato News also presents a summary of the historical price levels of Italian, Chinese and US products since the end of 2009 as well as the details of the quantities exported by each of the countries active worldwide (See related articles below).

EU: new detailed custom codes for tomato products
The European Union has adopted an updated customs nomenclature for processed tomato products effective on 1st January 2024 which will enable a better understanding of the trade.
The subdivision of the customs codes related to tomato products were outdated by the reality of the evolution of the market and international trade, which was making it very difficult to get a real picture of exchanges.
Following the proposals and strong justifications made the European tomato processors represented by TomatoEurope on these bases, the European Commission has adopted an updated customs nomenclature for processed tomato products, published officially in the Official Journal of the European Union on 31 October 2023 in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/2364 (See related articles below). For the moment, the values relating to this new nomenclature are only available for Spanish and Portuguese statistics.

This information is sourced from the trade statistics provided by the various national customs services of the countries concerned (all of which are regularly audited for reliability by information-collecting services at a worldwide level), as well as from other official or professional sources.
