Italy: La Doria leverages SIG solution to boost filling capacity

La Doria expands filling capacity to meet demand for canned foods in SIG SafeBloc carton packs. SIG’s low weight and rectangular shaped carton packs deliver increased transportation and storage efficiency.

According to a press release dated June 16, 2023, Italian food producer La Doria has purchased SIG’s Safe 12 Food Retort filling line to strengthen its filling capacity. The food company will use the machine to fill canned products in SIG SafeBloc carton packs.

The rectangular, low-weight SIG carton packs offer increased transportation and storage efficiency for manufacturers and retailers. In addition, SIG SafeBloc carton packs are a more sustainable packaging option compared to cans or glass jars and do not compromise the quality of foods such as vegetables and stews.

La Doria uses SIG’s 200ml to 500ml carton packs to fill a wide range of pulses.
La Doria export sales director Diodato Ferraioli said: “Our close cooperation with SIG for two decades has enabled us to grow our business and drive carton share in our food categories.

“Investment in our third SIG Safe 12 Food Retort filling line at our Sarno plant gives us the best options for logistics, efficiency, flexibility and sustainability. We continue to work together with SIG’s expert team to provide our retailers and consumers with the most convenient and sustainable packaging solutions for our food products.”

The investment in SIG Safe 12 Food Retort filling line follows increased demand for canned foods. Last year, La Doria filled its food products in more than 100 million SIG carton packs.
Commercial production on the new filling began at the beginning of 2023.

SIG Europe marketing head Paolo Volpari said: “Our innovative solutions not only meet the changing needs of customers like La Doria but also consumers who are now much more clued up on environmental matters and are looking for high-quality long-life products in more sustainable packaging.”

In April 2022, SIG invested in new digital printing technology for aseptic carton packs manufactured in Europe.
