California: Crop situation as of 6 Oct., projection to 13 Oct.

09/10/2018 - François-Xavier Branthôme - 2018 Season - Lire en français
Quantities of organic tomatoes widely exceed half a million short tons

According to the PTAB figures, the quantities delivered during the 14th week of the season (ended 6 October) amounted to 433,019 short tons (sT) (392,792 metric tonnes (mT)). Quantities are decreasing rapidly now: with only 123,123 sT (111,685 mT) forecast by PTAB for the current week, the quantities processed in California in 2018 should amount to 12,184,505 sT (11,052,564 mT) on 13 October. This volume would be 16% lower (1.737 million sT or 1.576 million mT) than the final result of 2017, but only 2% compared to the quantities processed on average during the previous three seasons.
This provisional amount now represents 101.5 % of the recently revised estimate for the 2018 California season (12 million tonnes or 10.885 million metric tonnes).

Quantities of organic tomatoes reached 523,312 sT (474,696 mT) at the end of week 39 (ended Sept. 29), 22% more than in 2017 and 15% higher than the average of the past three seasons.
