California 2019: Crop situation as of 3 Aug., projection to 10 Aug.

06/08/2019 - François-Xavier Branthôme - 2019 Season
For the fifth week of harvest (ending August 3rd) PTAB estimates are 716,141 short tons (sT) (649,611 metric tonnes (mT)) to be delivered. This amount is still under the usual weekly 1 million sT threshold and brings the provisional total up to 2,068,333 sT (or 1,876,185 mT).
Another 889,303 sT (806,687 mT) are estimated to be harvested during the week 32 (ending August 10th). If this holds, the provisional total is expected to reach 2,957,636 sT, (or 2,682,872 mT) and the 2019 crop will continue to be extremely behind of the 2018 crop harvest for the same time period (972,045 sT or 881,742 mT, or -32% as of 3 August).

The 2019 California Organic processing tomato deliveries have picked up with 71,482 tons harvested for week ending July 27, 2019. This bring the total harvested up to 171,566 sT (155,628 mT). As shown in the graph below, the year to date harvest is the lowest recorded at this time since 2013.

According to the figures available, the current harvest path is 1.473 million sT (1.336 million mT) behind the average of the quantities harvested at the same date (end of week 32) in the past three years. Quantities being harvested represent about 24% of the official target of the season (12.1 million sT, or 10.976 million mT).
