The end of the season brought some slight changes in the results of a few major processing countries and to the 2019 global total. As of November 19, the global preliminary result amounted to 37.379 million metric tonnes, up 2.56 million tonnes (+7%) from the final result in 2018 (34.815 million mT) and 1% higher than the average of the results of three previous seasons.
2019 updated information
In Italy, the final results show a total production of 4,800,648 metric tonnes of which 2,368,745 tonnes in the North and 2,431,903 tonnes in the South.
In France, the final net volume processed was 154,240 metric tonnes with an average brix of 4.94. The organic production represented 11.7% of the crop with 20 000 tonnes.
In California, the final production is 11,182,978 short tons or 10,144,140 metric tonnes.
In Canada, 464,747 short tons (421,611 metric tonnes) were contracted and 470,602 short tons (426,923 metric tonnes) harvested from 10,519 measured acres (4,257 hectares).
In China, COCFO TUNHE estimates the total production at 4.6 million tonnes and the production of tomato paste at 700,000 tonnes. The production is allocated as follows:
- 2.57 million tonnes in north Xinjiang,
- 980,000 tonnes in south Xinjiang,
- 60,000 tonnes in Gansu
- 990,000 tonnes in Inner Mongolia.
There were 70 factories opened across all country, of which 12 from Cofco Tunhe. In general, during the season, weather was good and production was normal and went well. Other sources have estimated higher volumes of fresh tomatoes processed following a good season in all regions.
2020 forecasts
In Argentina, the forecast is now increased to 465,000 tonnes from 6,620 hectares, with the following breakdown:
• Mendoza: 3,185 ha, 232,000 tonnes (+54%)
• San Juan: 1,828 ha, 142,000 tonnes (-8%)
• Salta & Jujuy : 1,100 ha, 65,000 tonnes (+85%)
• La Rioja: 360 ha, 23,800 tonnes (+11%)
• Rio Negro: 140 ha, 9,800 tonnes (-33%)
More than 2/3 planting area has been successfully planted.
