The 14th World Processing Tomato Congress will take place in San Juan on 15-19 March 2020

14/11/2018 - Sophie Colvine
The 14th World Processing Tomato Congress and the 16th ISHS Symposium on the Processing Tomato will be held in San Juan, Argentina on 15 to 19 March 2020. They will be organized by the Province of San Juan in association with Asociación Tomate 2000, WPTC and ISHS.

Between 5 and 7 November 2018, a delegation from WPTC composed of its President, Dimitris Nomikos, and its Secretary General, Sophie Colvine, visited the Province of San Juan to start the preparations for the event. On 5 November, they were received by Governor Sergio Uñac, together with the Minister of Production and Economic Development, Andrés Díaz Cano, and the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Agribusiness, Ariel Lucero Reinoso, and various officials of the area, local and industrial producers. The Governor reiterated his commitment to make the event a success both for its foreign and local participants and to use it as a unique opportunity to boost the local production. During the three days of their visit, the delegation, accompanied by Ariel Lucero Reinoso and Cosme Argerich, the coordinator of Asociación Tomate 2000, the interprofessional organization which is the member of WPTC in Argentina, visited various potential sites for the congress, for social events and for the post-congress tour. These included the largest local tomato processing factory La Campagnola-Arcor and the Francisco Martín farm, dedicated to tomato production in the department of Pocito near San Juan. They also met with many local tomato growers and processors members of Tomate 2000 for a fruitful exchange over a typical Argentinian barbecue.
