Spain, Portugal: 2018 subsidies figures - Updated

Surface areas have dropped, per unit amounts have increased

Spain's agricultural guarantee fund (Fondo Español de Garantía Agraria) has published the final per unit amounts for subsidies to the tomato industry as well as to protein crops and crops of shelled pulses, carob beans and rice.
The total budget allocated to financial support for the Spanish processing tomato crop in 2018 amounts to EUR 6 352 000.

For the 2018 season, the surface areas dedicated to processing tomatoes officially covered 30 605.82 hectares. Extremadura ranks first among the autonomous communities for the tomato processing sector (22 011 ha), ahead of Andalusia (5 706 ha) and Navarra (1 772 ha). Consequently, the final per unit amount of aid has been fixed at EUR 207.483505 /ha (against EUR 179.82906 /ha in 2017). The 2018 amount is 15% higher than the amount allocated in 2017, but the relevant surfaces during the season 2017 were 13% more than those of the last year.

For the record, the amount allocated in Portugal for the 2018 season was 240 Euro/ha; in Greece, the amount was released in mid-April and amounted to 720 Euros/ha.
