Obituary: Carlo Leoni

06/05/2022 - Sophie Colvine
Dott. Carlo Leoni died on Thursday 5 May 2022 in Langhirano (Parma) after a short hospitalization following a sudden cerebral hemorrhage. He would have been celebrating his eightieth birthday in June.

Carlo was known globally as one of the most important researchers who contributed to increasing knowledge on vegetable preserves, in particular tomatoes. He was in fact well known to the international tomato processing sector, both for his long and fruitful membership in SSICA from 1969 seamlessly until his retirement in 2007, and for having been the expert Commissionner for international legislation (Codex Alimentarius) and for tomato & health for AMITOM and WPTC.

We remember him for his amount of scientific work carried out in the canning sector but above all for his human qualities.

We send our heartfelt condolences to his wife Nora and son Giulio.
