This new coalition seeks to unite Europe's food manufacturing technologies and equipment sector to boost competitiveness, innovation, and minimize environmental impact for a resilient food system, inviting all industry companies to join and strengthen its voice in policymaking.
Four prominent companies in the food manufacturing technologies and equipment sector – Alfa Laval, Krones, SPX FLOW, and Tetra Pak – have announced the launch of Food Manufacturing Technologies Europe (FMTE). This new coalition aims to provide a unified voice for Europe’s fragmented food manufacturing technologies and equipment industry, driving innovation, enhancing competitiveness, and minimizing environmental impact for a more resilient future food system.
The sector, a significant contributor to a global market projected to reach €118.4 billion by 2030, currently faces challenges such as sustaining competitiveness, scaling sustainable innovations, navigating supply chain disruptions, and adapting to evolving regulatory frameworks. FMTE seeks to address these by uniting manufacturers of all sizes across Europe.
FMTE has outlined three core objectives:
- Strengthen Sector Resilience and Competitiveness: Foster collaboration and align with EU priorities.
- Drive Sustainability and Innovation for Impact: Scale innovations that reduce environmental impact, optimize resource use, and support EU climate goals.
- Champion the Sector’s Voice in Policymaking: Contribute insights and best practices to shape supportive EU policy.
The founding companies emphasize that FMTE will serve as a crucial platform for a stronger collective voice, aiming to ensure a more influential role for Europe’s food manufacturing technology sector in shaping its future. The coalition plans to foster open collaboration with policymakers and researchers to accelerate innovation and address shared challenges, ultimately strengthening Europe's position in a resilient, high-performing food system.
