Energy Efficiency Upgrades at Los Gatos

The California-based tomato processor Los Gatos Tomato Products has been awarded close to $1 million in incentives from Pacific Gas & Electric company (PG&E) for their commitment to energy efficiency. The company partnered with CLEAResult on a multi-year Strategic Energy Management (SEM) program.

This program focused on improving the efficiency of the company's steam system through upgrades like fixing steam leaks and implementing Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) to recycle waste steam. These projects resulted in significant reductions in electrical and gas consumption, as well as water usage. They reduced their electricity usage by 2.5%, natural gas consumption by over 8%, and saved more than 6 million gallons of water annually.

Steven Sesock, Vice President of Operations, emphasized the program's value for food producers seeking to improve their environmental footprint. The success of Los Gatos Tomato Products demonstrates the significant financial and environmental benefits of investing in energy efficiency, with over 70 food producers in PG&E's service area already participating in similar programs.

PG&E and CLEAResult highlighted the importance of these programs for both grid stability and fostering a culture of energy efficiency. The SEM program provides ongoing support and incentives, helping businesses achieve long-term energy savings and operational improvements.
