The creation of this complex is an opportunity to reduce post-harvest losses of tomatoes. Tomato is one of the most consumed foodstuffs by the population, with an annual production estimated at 889,800 tonnes per year. According to FAO data, most of the production comes from the Western region which has more than 329,000 smallholders. According to the DG of APME, Marie Louis Badga, this initiative will bring some stability to the local tomato sector. “Tomato prices are sometimes high but other times, they are so low that producers find it difficult to get by.”
