California: Crop situation as of August 20 2022

23/08/2022 - François-Xavier Branthôme - 2022 Season
According to the figures collected by PTAB, the 2022 California processing tomato deliveries are steadily increasing. For week seven (ending August 20th) PTAB is estimating 783,213 metric tonnes (mT) (863,345 short tons (sT)) were delivered to the factories. Week eight (ending August 27th) is estimated to be 800,959 mT (882,906 sT) which would bring the year-to-date total to an estimated 4,754,064 mT (5,240,459 sT).
For actual tons delivered (3,169 million mT) through week six, California is tracking below (-21%) the five year average (4.03 mT). Data collected by PTAB show that YTD solids amount to 5.47 compared to 5.33 for the same time period in the 2021 season, or 0.14 higher. There were 134,134 loads delivered as of August 13, 2022, or 19,518 less than 2021 for same time period.

The 2022 California Organic processing tomato deliveries for the week six (ending August 13th) were 12,836 mT (14,151 sT). The total tons YTD for week six is 374,909 mT (413,266 sT), or 12% of the actual total delivered quantities. Provisional total is 11% lower than in 2021 on the same date and 16% higher than the average quantity processed during past three seasons at this time.

If the weekly projections come true, the projected quantities on August 27 would represent approximately 45% of the California processors' target. (10.6 million mT).
