California 2020: Crop situation as of 25 July, projection to 1 Aug.

29/07/2020 - François-Xavier Branthôme - 2020 Season
For the fourth week of harvest (ending July 25th) PTAB estimates are 690,216 short tons (sT) (626,095 metric tonnes (mT)) to be delivered. Provisional total (1,289,426 sT or 1,169,638 mT) is 21% lower than the average quantity processed during past three seasons at this time (1.725 million sT).
Another 835,579 sT (757,954 mT) are estimated to be harvested during the week 5 (ending August 1st). If achieved, this would bring the provisional total up to 2,125,005 sT, (or 1,927,592 mT).
Due to a hot and dry summer in the US Midwest, processing should start around August 15th. The Midwest crop is estimated to remain the same at 450,000 ST.

Looking at the PTAB data through week three, California Organic processing tomato deliveries account for 26% (155,676 sT or 141,214 mT) of the overall 599,209 short tons (543,543 mT ) harvested thus far.

According to the figures available, the current harvest path is 435,445 sT (394,992 mT) behind the average of the quantities harvested at the same date (end of week 4) in the past three years. Quantities being harvested represent almost 17% of the official target of the season (12.0 million sT, or 10.886 million mT).
