California 2020: Crop situation as of 19 Sept., projection to 26 Sept.

22/09/2020 - François-Xavier Branthôme - 2020 Season
For the twelfth week of harvest (ending September 19) PTAB estimates that 963,616 short tons (sT*) (874,096 metric tonnes (mT)) were delivered. Provisional total (9,011,253 sT or 8,174,871 mT) is 7% lower than the average quantity processed during past three seasons at this time (9.7 million sT or 8.8 million mT).
For week 13 (ending September 26), projection for California harvest is down again with an estimate of 938,038 short tons (850,894 mT). If achieved, this would bring the provisional total up to 9,949,291 sT, or 9,025,845 mT).
According to the PTAB, solids as of September 19 were about 0.10 higher than in the same period in 2019, averaging 5.27 versus 5.17 last year.

The 2020 California Organic processing tomato deliveries for the week ending 12 September were 30,216 sT (27,409 mT) bringing the provisional total to 498,347 sT (or 452,093 mT). Processed quantities in week 11 make it the third largest week in the history of organic processing tomato in California, almost equal to the 2018 level on the same date. At this time, organic quantities account for more than 6% of total harvested quantity.

According to the figures available, the current harvest path is 547,026 sT (496,207 mT) behind the average of the quantities harvested at the same date (end of week 12) in the past three years.
According to the 2020 California Processing Tomato Report released on 27 August by NASS, contracted production for California processing tomatoes was revised downward and is now forecast at 11.4 million short tons (10,34 million metric tonnes),
Taking this change into consideration, quantities being harvested will bring the provisional processed total to more than 87% of the official target of the season (11.4 million sT, or 10.34 million mT).
