The Tomato Foundation is announcing the start of The Tomato Product Bioactive Qualification and Quantification sample study, which will commence later this month in the laboratories at SSICA in Parma.
The focus of this groundbreaking research will be to quantify levels of 37 bioactive active compounds found in all categories of tomato paste and other tomato products.
These bioactive compounds are known to improve blood flow.
The study represents the second step towards building an EFSA health claim application dossier for tomato products and improved blood flow. There is broad global support and consensus that this health claim has the power to permanently and positively change the consumer perspective of tomato products, adding value in all categories on a global scale.
Samples are already being requested from the Foundation’s Health Claim project consortium partners.
There is still time to participate and have your tomato paste and products included in the study. The closing date to join this project is March 31st.
Benefits for project consortium partners include:
- License to use the health claim - For a 5-year protected period.
- Access to study outcome data specific to your samples.
- Access to ongoing sample study and project methods and results.
- Opportunities for participation/collaboration in the European project.
The study results will allow the Foundation to apply to EC funding streams to support the costs of completing the health claim project’s next steps.
