Organic Products: 40% growth in Conserve Italia's sales

30/05/2019 - François-Xavier Branthôme
Bologna-based cooperative Conserve Italia has reported a 40% year-on-year growth in the sales of organic products, with the turnover reaching Euros 180 million in Europe in the first 10 months of the business year 2018/2019.

Germany, France, and the United Kingdom registered the highest growth during this period. In the Scandinavian countries, the preference for organic products was combined with concern for the environment. Consumers are gradually abandoning tinplate packaging in favour of products sold in Tetra Recart packaging made of renewable and recyclable materials, the company said.

France saw a rise in the launch of new shops and specialised sales outlets as well as sales through organised distribution channels.
Recently, Conserve Italia launched a new line of Cirio tomatoes for French consumers that offer peeled tomatoes, mashed tomatoes, and organic pulps. The 'Toscana' range of Cirio tomatoes has been introduced in Germany to focus on the evocative appeal of the Italian region.

It includes purees and pulps made exclusively from tomatoes cultivated in the company's farms in Grosseto and processed in the plant in the Italian town of Albinia.

Food processing cooperative Conserve Italia is a market leader in Italy, involving 14,000 agricultural producers and processing over 600,000 tonnes of fruit, tomatoes, and vegetables in its 12 production plants. The aggregate turnover of the Conserve Italia Group is around Euros 900 million. The company owns food products brands such as Cirio, Valfrutta, Yoga, Derby Blue, and Jolly Colombani.
It also sells organic products under private-label brands.
