California 2020: Crop situation as of 8 Aug., projection to 15 Aug.

11/08/2020 - François-Xavier Branthôme - 2020 Season
For the sixth week of harvest (ending August 8) PTAB estimates are 940,231 short tons (sT) (852,884 metric tonnes (mT)) to be delivered. Provisional total (3,084,250 sT or 2,797,723 mT) is 16% lower than the average quantity processed during past three seasons at this time (3.66 million sT).
For week 7 (ending August 15th), California is projected to have its first million-ton week with an estimate of 1,084,170 short tons (983,451 mT). If achieved, this would bring the provisional total up to 4,168,420 sT, (or 3,781,174 mT).
According to the PTAB, solids as of August 1 were about 2.4% higher than in the same period in 2019, averaging 5.44 versus 5.31 last year.
Processing is still expected to start around August 15th in the US Midwest.

The 2020 California Organic processing tomato deliveries for the week ending August 1st were 70,949 sT (64,358 mT) bringing the provisional total to 299,400 sT (or 271,586 mT). Processed quantities in week 5 make it the second largest week in the history of organic processing tomato in California. At this time, organic quantities account for less than 8% of total harvested quantity.

According to the figures available, the current harvest path is 576,591 sT (523,025 mT) behind the average of the quantities harvested at the same date (end of week 6) in the past three years. Quantities being harvested represent almost 35% of the official target of the season (12.0 million sT, or 10.886 million mT).
