California 2020: Crop situation as of 22 Aug., projection to 29 Aug. (rev)

26/08/2020 - François-Xavier Branthôme - 2020 Season
California harvest close to meeting half of its targets

For the eighth week of harvest (ending August 22) estimates are 1,018,130 short tons (sT) (923,546 metric tonnes (mT)) to be delivered. Provisional total (5,064,158 sT or 4,593,698 mT) is 13% lower than the average quantity processed during past three seasons at this time (5.80 million sT).
For week 9 (ending August 29), California is projected to have its second million-ton week with an estimate of 1,031,744 short tons (935,895 mT). If achieved, this would bring the provisional total up to 6,095,902 sT, (or 5,529,593 mT).
According to the PTAB, solids as of August 15 were about 0.16 higher than in the same period in 2019, averaging 5.43 versus 5.27 last year.

The 2020 California Organic processing tomato deliveries for the week ending 15 August were 31,646 sT (28,706 mT) bringing the provisional total to 367,525 sT (or 333,382 mT). Processed quantities in week 7 make it the third largest week in the history of organic processing tomato in California at this date. At this time, organic quantities account for less than 7% of total harvested quantity.

According to the figures available, the current harvest path is 733,790 sT (665,784 mT) behind the average of the quantities harvested at the same date (end of week 8) in the past three years. Quantities being harvested represent almost 51% of the official target of the season (12.0 million sT, or 10.886 million mT).
