California 2019: Crop situation as of 28 Sept., projection to 5 Oct.

01/10/2019 - François-Xavier Branthôme - 2019 Season
More than 93% of the season to be achieved

PTAB estimates that 883,284 short tons (sT) (801,227 metric tonnes (mT)) were delivered during the thirteenth week of harvest (ending September 28th). Provisional total (9,997,735 sT, or 9,068,945 mT) is still 11% lower than the average quantity processed during past three seasons at this time (11.22 million sT).
Another 745,108 sT (675,887 mT) are estimated to be delivered the week 40 (ending October 5th). If this holds, the provisional total is expected to reach 10,742,843 sT, (or 9,744,833 mT). Last year, 98% of the crop was harvested for the same time period.

The 2019 California Organic processing tomato deliveries has decreased again with 17,932 sT (16,266 mT) harvested for week ending September 21, 2019. This brings the total harvested up to 362,492 sT (328,816 mT).

According to the figures available, the current harvest path is 874,814 sT (793,543 mT) behind the average of the quantities harvested at the same date (end of week 40) in the past three years. Quantities being harvested represent more than 93% of the revised official target of the season (11.5 million sT or 10.432 million mT); however, significant adjustments regarding California production have been made in the latest WPTC forecast, which reduce the expected quantities to 11 million sT (about 10 million mT). Initial objective for California crop was (12.1 million sT, or 10.976 million mT).
