Founded in 1968, The California Tomato Research Institute, Inc. is a non-profit organization of processing tomato growers. As the industry's research sponsor, the Institute's purpose is to identify, fund and direct research to maintain and enhance the economic viability of California's processing tomato industry with emphasis on production, product quality and the environment.

Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV)- A threat to field grown tomatoes in California?

The Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV) has spread globally in less than 5 years, is highly virulent and is not controlled by our existing genetics. Although ToBRFV is not currently established in California, it was detected in a greenhouse in southern California in 2018. This pamphlet has been put together as a brief to the industry on this new viruses status and characteristics; including measures which should be taken now by seed companies, dealers, growers and industry personnel to prevent it's spread into and throughout California.
