Algeria: import taxes reduced to 120%

04/02/2019 - François-Xavier Branthôme - 2019 Season - Lire en français
Algerian processors and growers expressed their deep dissatisfaction after the list of goods subject to the provisional additional safeguard duty was published in the official gazette on 27 January. Finally, contrary to what had been widely announced in recent weeks, the rate applied to the import of fresh or chilled tomatoes, intended for processing (among which the triple tomato concentrate whose imports are said to cause damage to the whole industry) is 120% instead of initially announced 200%.
Producers warned that if this decision is maintained, they will not devote any area to the cultivation of processing tomatoes this year and will be forced to give up this activity.
